Oregon Nail Training Requirements

According to the State of Oregon Board of Cosmetology, an aspiring nail technician must complete a nail technology school of at least 350 hours. In addition, those receiving their first license must also receive another 150 mandatory training hours in safety and infection and control, and another 100 hours of career development classes. Nail tech schools in Oregon will teach basic manicure and pedicure techniques, hand and foot massage, application of artificial nails and nail tips and perhaps nail art skills.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the nail tech profession will increase by 17% by the year 2020. In a May 2011 survey, the BLS found statewide annual mean salaries for nail techs in Oregon were between $24,760 and $28,830 (tips may provide additional income). It was also reported that most nail techs in the state are employed at spas, salons, resorts, hotels, department stores and in nail boutiques and salons.
