Most nail technician schools in Idaho conclude the program with the student passing an exam that presents them with certification or license for this particular area of the beauty business.

Nail technicians utilize their skills to treat a customer's fingernails and toenails with procedures known as manicures and pedicures. Typical tasks for a nail technician is nail maintenance using tools such as scissors, emery boards, lotions, and pumice stones. Additionally, a nail technician needs to be skilled in applying artificial enhancements such as acrylic nails, polish, and decals.

Idaho Nail Training Requirements

Idaho nail technician students have two paths to becoming licensed in the state. A student can either complete 400 hours of classroom education in nail technician skills, or apprentice for 800 work hours. Students must be at least 16 ½ years old and have completed 2 years of high school or the equivalent. A written examination must be passed, and it is administered by the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology. A practical exam is also required.

The future for this career appears bright, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates it will grow by 17% by 2020. Nail techs are also highly in demand at full service salons, hotels and in the resort industry. Manicurists in Idaho earn an average annual salary of $18,150 before tips.
