To become licensed as a nail tech in Washington, you must be at least 17 years old to enroll in nail tech school. The Washington State Department of Licensing then requires students complete at least 600 hours of education at an approved school, or 800 hours as an apprentice to an approved, licensed manicurist. Students then must pass the state-approved written and practical exams to receive their initial manicurist license.

The statewide annual average manicurist salary in Washington is $25,200 before tips. In addition working at spas, department stores and salons, licensed manicurists in Washington can work at their own home salon or run a mobile nail boutique salon in this state.
