Georgia Nail Training Requirements

Students who wish to become nail technicians in Georgia have two options to become licensed. The first is to complete a cosmetology class of at least 525 credit hours over 4 months at an accredited cosmetology school. The other option is to apprentice to a licensed manicurist for 1050 hours and a minimum of 8 months. Students must pass both a written and a practical exam after completing either school or the apprentice program. Once all requirements are complete, the student can apply for their state license through the State of Georgia Board of Cosmetology.

GA Nail Technician Salary & Job Opportunities

Dozens of nail tech and cosmetology schools are located throughout the state. Each accredited program will prepare students for employment in a nail shop or beauty salon. They will include classroom lectures, demonstrations and student hands-on practice. As of April 2013, the State of Georgia Board of Cosmetology listed over 8800 licensed manicurists and nail technicians in the state. The nail tech salary can range from $16,950 to $29,540 per year before tips, according to the 2010 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. The statewide annual mean salary was $23,680 before tips.
