Have you ever thought about going to cosmetology school? Many people who do not want to go to a traditional university for four years, six years, or even eight years end up considering cosmetology as an alternate route.
It’s a hands-on profession; cosmetology school consists of a little training and a large amount of practice. Many schools offer discounted or free haircuts to those who are willing to let a student practice their craft. Typically, a cosmetologist can become licensed in around a year, although the amount of time it takes to finish the required number of practice hours to attain certification varies depending on the student.

If you’re undecided about cosmetology as a career versus other professions that do not require a college degree, it’s helpful to consider your options. It used to be that certain medical assistants, nurses, and dental hygienists could practice their craft without a four-year degree. The market for these jobs, however, is increasingly competitive, with more and more people opting for at least a bachelor’s degree in such fields.

Trade professions continue to offer viable options. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, and landscape professionals often need special training or certification, but are not necessarily required to have a typical college degree. Certain office jobs, like secretarial or paralegel work, might require only an associate’s, or two year, degree.

Those working in computer science or the arts can certainly benefit from a degree in their field, but talent, skill, and know-how often trump everything. If you know what you’re doing, there are jobs to be had. A number of specialized computer courses that do not require a degree are offered (where else?) online, allowing aspiring computer specialists to hone their skills and acquire new knowledge without having to attend a college.

After reviewing all of the options, it’s clear that there is still a way forward for those looking for an advanced education and viable profession outside of traditional college. To be sure, a college degree is useful, and many people choose to go that route. But if you’re seeking different direction, there are still plenty of options out there.

If you’ve looked at your options and decided on a career in cosmetology, it can be a quite satisfying and productive job. There is often opportunity for advancement, and the level of pay can often depend on your skill and hard work. What’s not to like?

Risky fashion statements are always in, as you can plainly see when you look at celebrities who dye their hair outrageous colors, and who wear some of the boldest prints you can imagine. The newest trend in daring fashions deals with your nails. Although shades of red were a staple for any fashionista a decade ago, the focus is shifting from basic colors that are a bit loud to patterns and 3-D effects.

Stick on nail art and glitter were all the rage at one time. Even the more recent trend of nail polish that has a cracked surface has been left behind in the dust. The same goes for nail polish with a heavenly aroma.

Every season seems to bring in a few new hues, since every maker of nail lacquer wants to feature unique shades of every color known to man. However, this season has nail polish manufacturers bringing some one-of-a-kind tints like shrieking green to the shelves of your local drugstore and department stores. Tints like muddied orange are selling out quickly to those who want a divalicious look for their nails.

People are now considering their nails as small canvases to show off the latest styles. You’ve seen Nicki Minaj do it, and you may have even heard of Rihanna’s extra expensive nail polish with real gold, but are you ready for the latest? If you are, then you might want to try some nail color with a 3-D effect. Don’t forget about the crazy patterns available on the market today. Yes, it’s true, a snakeskin print isn’t just for your shoes or purse; it can be used as an accessory you can take anywhere and everywhere—your nails! A leopard might not be able to change his or her spots, but you can surely change your nails with a fierce cheetah print finish.

What’s nice about the fad of your nails being a blank slate is that you can always use nail polish remover to remove anything that you don’t like or that doesn’t suit you well. The rule might be the more outrageous the better, but you can experiment with your comfort level without the consequence of a permanent blunder.

While you might not want to invest in Chanel’s blackened orange nail polish, there are plenty of options from brands like Esse and Sally Hansen that won’t cost you a fortune. In fact, you can spend under $30, and get still get a bottle of color that will get your fingertips noticed. If you want to learn more or maybe attend a nail school go here!

A bombshell beauty will be crowned Miss Universe Canada on Saturday. But who to credit with her fine features: Mother Nature or a plastic surgeon? Unless the women reveal the truth about their slender thighs, large breasts and button nose, the public is never the wiser because cosmetic surgery is permitted in Miss Universe pageants and contestants aren’t required to disclose if they’ve gone under the scalpel.

There has been a lot of attention given to the big buns at Cannes this year, but we prefer a much more inspiring and complementary style to the amazing gowns; that is the glamorous, side-swept screen-siren style as worn by Lana Del Rey, Eva Longoria and Bérénice Béjo.

21-year-old British glamour model Amy Childs is, based on this outfit, quite possibly the worst (and/or the new Jodie Marsh). Childs is also well known in the UK for giving someone a vajazzle (a vajazzling?) on a show on a trashy reality show called The Only Way is Essex. She’s since become “synonymous with vajazzling”–much like Jennifer Love Hewitt on this side of the pond.

This easy summer styles adds unique texture to your look. It also keeps the hair out of your face! The following lists represents the best and easiest braids that you can do yourself to keep your look fresh and trendy.

1) French Chic- The French Braid

The classic French braid is one of the easiest to do. It also looks great in every situation from the beach to an afternoon wedding. This braid is easy to start do; start at the crown of the head and work your way towards the end of the hair by adding strands in to the braid. It is that simple! You can also make this braid more interesting by doing two braids or doing a reverse french braid starting at the nape of the neck. For a super cool celebrity look, french braid from one side of your head to the other to create a super cool crown of hair! This is also known as the crown braid and it can take some practice. However, do not worry about the braid being perfect!

2) Simple and Easy- The English Braid

The standard braid is also known as the English braid. It refers to the most common type of braid: three pieces of hair woven together to create a polished look. You can begin at the base of the neck with three even sections. Then, just cross the left portion over the middle followed by the right. Repeat these steps until you get to the end of the hair. For a more modern take on the standard braid, gently tug on the braid in different sections to create a messy bohemian look.

3) Mermaid Beauty- The Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid is very cool and one of the easier braids to do. It is done in the same method as the English braid. However, very small sections must be used as they are woven together. Many people pull their hair into a ponytail before the begin to create a solid base for the braid.

4) Remain Neutral- The Swiss Briad

In order to achieve this look, you will need long hair that can be piled on top of your hair. First, you will need to braid two even pigtails. Then, take the braids and cross them around the head until they reach around the towards the crown. After, secure the braids with bobby pins or pretty clips for an elegant summer look.

Being part of a learning community can be the greatest experience of your life, preparing you with knowledge and training for your future job and providing the opportunity to build friendships and business relationships that will last for years.

For most of my friends in high school, the idea of a “learning community” was represented by a typical four-year college. I didn’t know many other people that were looking into cosmetology as a career, so I struck out on my own looking for a school that fit my needs. Here are some of the lessons I learned on my journey; maybe these tips can help you find a school that will bridge the gap to your future career and put a smile on your face!

Tip 1: Just right! As I looked for cosmetology schools, I quickly got the feeling that the right kind of school was just like Goldilocks’ porridge: not too hot, not too cold, but just right. Some schools called me repeatedly, even up to multiple times daily! Others seemed to be completely indifferent to my presence. The school I chose struck a perfect balance. They seemed warm and welcoming, but not desperate and cloying; within a few minutes there, it felt like home. Make sure the school you choose strikes that balance.

Tip 2: Notice the atmosphere. As I watched the other students at the school, they seemed to be having a good time; there were plenty of opportunities for training, but nobody seemed overworked or abnormally stressed. The staff was professional and friendly; they always made sure to explain techniques and to help resolve any problems that arose; they’d even “fix” a haircut if needed! At the same time, hard work was encouraged and expected; this gave the students a sense of security that no one could fulfill their certification hours by simply “slacking off” in the back– no one got a pass to be lazy!

Tip 3: Can they meet your financial and professional needs? A good cosmetology school will have options, such as payment programs, to help students who are on a budget. In addition, many schools offer to “guide” you to a job in a salon after graduation. Good schools have relationships within the salon industry. If a school isn’t guiding its students toward jobs, you have to ask: why not?

The last thing to remember is to take your time and get it right. After all, this is an investment in your future; make sure you go to a beauty school that will help you hit the ground running!

If you want to shine, why not add a little sparkle to your daily makeup routine without having to go to beauty school. Get ready to take a step back in time; a few of the hottest trends of the ’80s have been reborn and are being seen everywhere we look. One of those trends is glitter.

Glitterlicious is one of the trending looks and if you need evidence, consider the brilliant blue lips Katy Perry displayed during her performance at the Grammy Awards.

So, if you want to ‘make a glitterlicious entrance,’ follow this recipe and create your own glittery look:

• Hair

Use water to lightly mist your hair and then sprinkle the glitter (6NYX multi-purpose glitter on-the-go) over it. You can use any color glitter that you like, do not limit your choices!

• Lips

To add pizzazz to your lips, use the GlitzyLips foil. It is easy to apply. This foil can actually be used almost anywhere. There are temporary tattoos as well. Other brands to consider are Violent Lips and Trendy Lips.

• Cheeks

To give your cheeks the luscious shine you are looking for you need to use cream blush. Put the blush on and then gently dab multi-purpose colored glitter over your cheeks.

• Eyes

Use glitter eyeliner to outline your eyes. Then apply some glittery false eyelashes and eyeshadow on your eyelids. Now, apply multi-purpose glitter over your eyeshadow by patting it on with your makeup brush. Do not rub it onto your eyelid. Now, watch as your eyes shine.

• Body

Moisten your skin with body. This will make your glitter stick. Then, sprinkle the multi-purpose glitter all over your cleavage and neck.

You are now ready to make your entrance. Just remember to be glamorous as you show how glitterlicious you really are!

If You are Not into Glitterlicious, Consider Adding a Gentle Moondust Glow

If you are not ready to take the leap to the glitterlicious side, maybe you could just give yourself a beautifully elegant moondust glow. You can do this quickly and easily by adding a little shimmer to your makeup. Even the slightest bit of glitter will give your style a sparkly boost. However, in a case like this, do not overdo the glitter.

Adding a Light Moondust Glow (All these products are available from the majority of makeup companies)

• Lips

Sheer lip-gloss with glitter

• Eyes

Shimmery cream eyeshadow

• Nails

Nude polish with shimmer

• Cheeks

Powder blush that has shimmer

Now, you shine just like Taylor Swift and whether you choose to shine a little or a lot, you will be glamorous!

Braids and cornrows are easily some of the most popular ways for African woman to wear their hair. They require little maintenance and they offer a variety of versatility to a woman’s look. Braids also allow the hair to recover from rigorous products and chemicals in order to keep in silky and manageable. Both cornrows and braids are quite simple to do. Braids feature taking three sections of the hair and laying one on top of the other until the braid reaches its end. Cornrows are more complex because they braided tightly into the crown of the head to create a variety of patterns or sections. The following list represents the most common braids and cornrows to help you decide which look will work best for you.

1) Straight Braid

This braid is also known as the Bob Marley. It works great on thick and unruly hair because of the texture. There are many ways to do this braid such as creating many thick braids starting at the crown. You can also put in micro braids that look more like locks of hair then braids themselves.

2) Ghana Weaving

These braids are also ideal for coarse hair because these are very tight braids that will not damage the hair. Synthetic hair is often used with this braid in order to add more personality to the look.

3) Pick and Drop Braids

This intricate style can take many hours to finish. However, it is one braid that lasts a much longer time compared to other styles. This is one of the most popular looks because it is comfortable and durable.

4) Unisex Braids

Kinky braids are ideal for both men and women. They are made with original kinky braids or other hair pieces. Cornrows are also a viable option for a classic look.

5) Basket Weaving

These braids have been made popular by Alicia Keys. There is no need for a hairpiece in these style, but they can be used.

In conclusion, any of these braids, weaves or cornrow styles will transform your look from boring to sassy. In order to prepare your hair, you will want to make sure that it has been washed with a deep conditioner. Also remember not to use a heavy hair cream because this will cause and itchy and flaky scalp. You should never leave a braid in for more then two months. Any longer then this will cause the hair to break. At night, you should wrap a satin scarf around your head to avoid any frizziness.

Most hair schools will give you training in hair braiding. Go here to find out how to get started in hair school.

You can learn a lot from an esthetician, including some very important information about exfoliation. Sure, you may think there cannot be anything else to know about something that seems so simple. Most young girls are taught something about exfoliation from their mothers, whether it be to use your wash rag in a circular motion when you wash your face, or to use harsh scrubs that contain pieces of nut shell. But in this case, mamma may not always know best. Here are three things that an esthetician could tell you that may surprise you.

1. Use a Lubricant

Olive oil, moisturizer, even baby oil is better than nothing. Just do not exfoliate bare skin. No matter how much it claims to be safe for sensitive skin, if you use it without some protection you might as well be using sandpaper. A cream or oil will not get in the way of the exfoliation process. It will actually help it.

2. Less Really Is More

You need to do it, but be careful not to do it too much. It is kind of like eating. You have to eat to stay healthy, but too much food or the wrong kinds of food can actually do damage. Exfoliation is essential to healthy skin, but doing it too often actually defeats the purpose. Exfoliation is meant to remove dead skin cells and leave room for healthy, younger ones to shine through. If you exfoliate more than once per week chances are you are getting rid of healthy skin cells, which increases cell production. The result is too many cells needing attention and care, and a dull or uneven complexion.

3. Step Away from the Sandpaper

Regardless of skin’s condition, harsh scrubs are not the answer. Skin cells are delicate and it does not take much to knock them free. Larger beads are better than jagged sandy ones, and a homemade scrub made with a rich cream and fine grain sugar works just fine. Use a light touch, rinse thoroughly, and beautiful skin is yours for the taking. The rougher the grain, the more irritating and damaging the skin is going to be. Damage and irritation does not result in beauty.

Estheticians are full of useful information and great skin care is their specialty. They take what they learn in esthetics schools and take your exfoliation advice from them and watch glowing skin ensue. Find a beauty school and BeautySchool.com.
