Are you thinking about becoming a nail technician in the Show Me State of Missouri? If so, you will need to attend 400 hours of classes at an approved manicurist school, or work as an apprentice nail technician for 800 hours. You will learn the basics of providing manicures and pedicures, sculptured nails, tips and overlays. You will also learn about nail salon business practices and ethics, plus hygiene and sanitation. Once you have completed your education or apprenticeship, the State of Missouri Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners requires you to pass a written theory test and a practical skills test to obtain your license.

Manicurists in Missouri can earn an annual average salary of $18,300, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. After you receive your Missouri nail technician license, you will be eligible for employment at beauty salons, spas and nail salons. Many nail technicians work in tourism and at resorts or hotels, such as those in Branson or at the Lake of the Ozarks. Missouri allows nail techs to have licensed home salons or to provide mobile salon services. Mobile salon services must be less than 49% of your weekly work, and you are required to use an approved portable nail tech equipment kit.
