Arkansas Nail Training Requirements

Arkansas nail technician training programs teach students to perform beauty treatments on nails, including manicures, pedicures, gels, acrylics and nail art. They also teach safe and hygienic methods to use the tools and instruments of the profession. The Arkansas Department of Health – Health Systems Licensing and Regulation Board, Cosmetology Section requires students complete a 600 hour education program. This will consist of classroom as well as practice on real clients. Students then must pass both a written and practical exam in order to receive their manicurist license. Currently, the specialty of manicurist has more job openings in salons and spas than any other cosmetology specialty .

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of manicurists and nail technicians is expected to grow 17% by 2020, which is approximately average for all occupations studied. The increase in employment opportunities for nail technicians may be the result of new nail services, such as mini-sessions and house calls, being offered. Nail art and decoration are especially popular new trends in the manicurist occupation. In Arkansas, the BLS reports licensed manicurists may earn between $20,300 and $32,360 per year before tips .
