Students attend a nail tech school of at least 350 hours. Also, students must pass a written test and a practical skills exam to obtain their license from the Minnesota Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners.

Statewide nail techs can earn an average annual salary of about $22,240. In the Northwest Minnesota region, nail techs have the highest level of employment for nail techs outside of cities, the 2nd highest number of jobs and job locations available and can earn the 4th highest salary for nail techs in the nation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary in this region is $23,560 for licensed and experienced nail techs. Minnesota nail techs have the opportunity to work at spas, salons, resorts, hotels or in their own home salon.
