Indiana State Nail Training Requirements

Applicants for a manicurist license in Indiana must first obtain at least 450 hours of nail school education. They must have graduated within 3 years of their first enrollment in class, unless a waiver is granted. To enter nail tech school in Indiana, a person must be at least 18 years old and have completed the 8th grade. In manicurist school, students will learn to care for natural and artificial nails, apply artificial nails and nail art, and to massage client's hands and feet as part of a manicure or pedicure. After completion of the required school, a manicurist applicant must pass a written examination given by the state.

Newly licensed manicurists are qualified to obtain jobs at salons or spas, in department stores, fitness centers or resorts. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the profession of nail technology will increase by approximately 17% by 2020.
