Connecticut Nail Training Requirements
Connecticut is does not currently require a license for nail technologists or manicurists. However, the Connecticut Board of Cosmetology, in a 12/27/2012 update, the Board stated they require at least 180 hours of education for nail technicians to be eligible to take their state licensing exam. Nail tech school should include training about nail analysis, application of gels and acrylics, basic manicure and pedicure skills, and health and sanitation issues for nail care. Manicurists should contact the Board directly to obtain the most up-to-date information prior to beginning a nail care practice.

According to data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 4th highest amount of nail technician jobs per capita are in Connecticut. They project an increase of 28% in manicurist employment by 2016. The annual mean salary for nail technicians in the state is $20,380 before tips. The cities of Bridgeport, Norwich, New Haven and Hartford have the most employment opportunities in the state for qualified nail technicians. Technicians in the state can work at hotels, boutique nail salons, and in general service spas and salons. Some also work at health and fitness centers, or in podiatrists’ offices to assist with nail care.
