Nail technician schools in Alaska provide training that leads to licensing as a nail technician in Alaska. Alaska Nail Training Requirements

Alaska has at least nine nail technician schools in the state, in addition to full cosmetology programs which may offer manicurist programs, as well. Most schools are located in Anchorage and Fairbanks. The State of Alaska Division of Occupational Licensing requires only a 12 hour basic course in health and sanitation to receive a basic nail technician license. The state offers an Advanced Manicurist licensure upon completion of a full 250 hour course. The state also offers an option to obtain a license after completion of the health class and 2000 hours of apprenticeship. Regardless of education completed, aspiring nail techs must pass the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology examination to become licensed. A licensed nail tech can provide manicures, pedicures, nail extensions, nail art and decoration and artificial nail services.

Anchorage is the 5th highest paying metropolitan area for nail technicians in the United States, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Experienced and licensed nail technicians there might earn $31,310 per year or more. Most licensed nail techs are employed with spas, salons, hotels, department stores and in Alaska’s large travel and tourism industry, including cruise ships. The BLS estimates growth in the manicurist field may reach 19% by 2018.
