Alaska Cosmetology Licensing Requirements

Licenses Available: Barber, Esthetician, Hairdresser and Manicurist

Required Hours:
Barber: 1650 hours (2000 apprentice)
Hairdresser: 1650 hours (2000 apprentice)
Esthtician: 350 hours
Manicurist: 250 hours + 12 hours additional instruction

Minimum Requirements: Information regarding minimum requirements can be obtained from the state board at the address below.

Reciprocity: Applicants must have a current license in a state that has training, and work experience equal to the state of Alaska. The applicant must have at least one year full time (32 hours per week) employment plus 1500 hours of education OR two years full time employment.
