Georgia: The Peach State

If you are interested in getting your Georgia cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Peach State!

Licenses Available:
Barber

Cosmetologist
Esthetician
Nail Technician

Required Hours:
Barber: 1500 Barber School Hours
Cosmetology: 1500 Cosmetology School Hours
Esthetician: 1000 Esthetician School Hours
Nail Technician: 525 Nail School Hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must be judged as "of good moral character."

Reciprocity:
Georgia grants reciprocity to applicants without additional exams. Applicants must hold a current license from another state in which the licensing requirements of equal or greater value to Georgia's.

 

Renewal:
Georgia nail technician licenses and esthetician licenses expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years. Cosmetology licenses expire on March 31 of even-numbered years. To renew licenses, applicants must have completed 5 hours of continuing education. To renew your Georgia cosmetology license, you must provide the GA Board of Cosmetology the following:
- Renewal application
- Fee
- Proof of continuing education hours
