Licenses Available:
Barber
Esthetician
Hairdresser
Manicurist

Required Hours:
Barber: 1650 Barber School Hours (2000 Apprenticeship Hours)
Hairdresser: 1650 Hair School Hours (2000 Apprenticeship Hours)
Esthetician: 350 Esthetician School Hours
Manicurist: 250 Nail School Hours + 12 Hours Additional Instruction

License Requirements:

Reciprocity:
Applicants for reciprocity must have a current license in a state that has beauty training and work experience equal to the state requirements of Alaska. The applicant must have at least one year of full-time (minimum 32 hours per week) employment plus 1500 hours of education, OR two years full-time employment.

Renewal:
All licenses expire on August 31 of odd-numbered years, except new licenses issued within 90 days of the license expiration date. To renew your Alaska cosmetology license, the following items are required at the Alaska cosmetology board:
