Indiana Beauty and Cosmetology Schools

Applying to beauty schools in Indiana is a great way to land a rewarding job in a salon or spa. Indiana is one of the Midwestern states. It is located close to the Great Lakes and has a diverse local economy. Farming is one of the large industries, but there are plenty of metro areas in the state as well. Racing, football, basketball and college sports are a few of the major attractions that students can enjoy during their spare time.

Students have several choices for their education, and the state has metro areas and small towns that have plenty of academies. Studying at the schools help students learn the proper techniques for cutting and styling in a professional setting. Some beauty schools in Indiana have educational requirements, and applicants may need to have a GED or high school diploma. Minimum math and English prerequisites may also be in place depending on the institution.

After a student graduates from their school, they can apply for their Indiana state cosmetology license. This is required of professionals who work in local salons, beauty parlors and barber shops. Several requirements need to be met, and studying at an accredited beauty school in Indiana is just one necessity. Cosmetologists need to prove that they have 1,500 class hours, nail technicians need 450 hours and estheticians need 700 hours. These requirements are easily met when students finish a program at one of the local beauty academies.

Growing demand in the beauty industry is expected to keep salaries high and ensure ample career openings. Currently, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts growth rates around 16 percent. The BLS also keeps payroll records, and they report the annual cosmetologist salary averages $26,460. Indiana professionals earn just below the national average, and the BLS reports median salaries are $25,490.
