Laser Training Schools in Alabama

Alabama Beauty and Cosmetology Schools

You can earn your cosmetology license and be on your way to a successful career by attending one of the many beauty schools in Alabama. Alabama, known as the "Heart of Dixie," is a remarkably diverse state with rolling mountains in the north and some of America's most beautiful beaches on its southern Gulf of Mexico shores. You can live, work and attend beauty school in a large urban area such as Birmingham, a charming college town such as Auburn or in many other hospitable Alabama municipalities.

You'll learn about hair cutting, manicures, waxing and skin care, gaining practical skills and learning the required safety procedures. Some beauty schools in Alabama require students to complete courses in basic math and English. Cosmetology and esthetics students must complete 1,500 hours of training, according to the Alabama Board of Cosmetology.

After graduation, you must pass the state's written examination and then complete a practical demonstration of your skills. Cosmetologists must renew their licenses with the state board every two years and show proof of continuing education in the field by taking classes or participating in hair shows.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of hairstylists was predicted to grow by 16 percent from 2010-2020, about as fast as all occupations. The BLS noted that demand for hair straightening, coloring and other specialized processes have increased over the past few years, so job opportunities should be good for stylists skilled in these areas. The median annual salary for hairstylists nationally was $22,570 in May 2011, according to the BLS, but Alabama stylists made a bit more, $23,100.
