If you are interested in getting your District of Columbia cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Washington, DC!

Licenses Available:
Cosmetology
Esthetics and Skin Care
Nail Technology

Required Hours:
Cosmetologist: 1500 Cosmetology School Hours
Nail Technologist: 350 Nail School Hours
Skin Care: 125 Esthetician School Hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must have at least an 8th grade education or equivalent.

Reciprocity:
Washington, D.C. grants reciprocity to all applicants whose current cosmetology license is from a state whose requirements are equivalent or greater than those in D.C. The cosmetology board may consider credit for work experience.

Renewal:
DC cosmetology licenses expire on April 15 of even-numbered years. If license lapses for 60 days without renewal, must apply for reinstitution.
