Pennsylvania Beauty and Cosmetology Schools

Students are sure to benefit with a rewarding career when they earn their Pennsylvania state cosmetology license. Beauty schools in Pennsylvania offer all of the classes that students need to take the state test. Pennsylvania is a huge state, and residents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy large metro areas or rural towns. Philadelphia is one of the largest cities in the state, but there are several small towns that are located conveniently close to the metro area. The state stretches from the eastern seaboard to the Great Lakes, and there are lots of great towns in between. The state is also home to numerous ski resorts and is known for its natural beauty.

At a beauty school in Pennsylvania, students will learn how to shampoo and cut hair. They will also learn more about nails and will get hands on experience in a practical setting. Some schools require students to perform basic English and math. However, most students can gain admission with only their GED.

The state of Pennsylvania licenses cosmetologists, and they have several requirements that they enforce. Students must first attend a state accredited beauty school. The state requires 1250 hours at an accredited institution in order for professionals to earn their cosmetology license. According to the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology, students must have 1250 hours of classes to be a barber and 300 hours to work as an esthetician.

The cosmetology field is rapidly growing, and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) the state of Pennsylvania has some of the highest demand in the country. Professionals earned an average of $25,100 in 2011. This is a little lower than the national average, but there are more professionals in the state of Pennsylvania. Cosmetologists will earn more in large cities, like Philadelphia, than they will in rural areas.
