South Carolina: The Palmetto State

If you are interested in getting your South Carolina cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Palmetto State!

Licenses Available:
Cosmetology

Esthetics
Nail Technology
Hair Braiding

Required Hours:
Cosmetology: 1500 Beauty School Hours
Nail Technology: 300 Nail School Hours
Esthetics: 450 Esthetician School Hours
Hair Braiding: One-day, 6-hour board approved hair braiding course

License Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must have at least 10th grade education.

Reciprocity:
South Carolina accepts reciprocity for estheticians and cosmetologists. All nail technicians must take the full examination. Applicant must hold current license and have met equal or greater requirements to South Carolina's. If certified for fewer than the required number of hours, the applicant must prove 2 years of consecutive work experience.

Renewal:
South Carolina cosmetology licenses are valid for one year, and expire on march 10 each year. Two year license renewals are an option. The state requires 6 hours of continuing education classes. To renew your license in South Carolina, the following are due to the SC cosmetology board:
