Texas: The Lone Star State

If you are interested in getting your Texas cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Lone Star State!

Licenses Available:
Barber, Barber Technician
Cosmetologist
Manicurist
Facial Specialist

Required Hours:
Barber: 1500 Barber School Hours
Barber Technician: 300 Barber School Hours
Cosmetologist: 1500 Beauty School Hours
Manicurist: 600 Nail School Hours
Facial Specialist: 750 Beauty School Hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Reciprocity:
Granted to applicants with licenses from another state whose requirements are the same as or greater than Texas.

Renewal:
Texas cosmetology licenses last for two years after the issue date. Continuing education hours are required for renewal, dependent on which license one holds. To renew your license in Texas, the following must be turned in to the TX cosmetology board:
- Renewal form
- Fee
- Proof of continuing education hours
