Michigan: The Wolverine State

If you are interested in getting your Michigan cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Wolverine State!

Licenses Available:
Cosmetology
Esthetics
Electrology
Manicuring
Natural Hair Culturist

Required Hours:
Cosmetologist: 1500 hours
Electrologist: 400 hours (or 6 months apprenticeship)
Esthetician: 400 hours
Manicurist: 400 hours
Natural Hair Culturist: 400 hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Electrologists must be at least 18.
Minimum of 9th grade education.

Reciprocity:
An individual licensed in another state or country may qualify provided that person has experience and traing comparable to that required in Michigan.

Renewal:
Michigan cosmetology licenses must be renewed on August 31 every other year. If renewal is not completed by October 31, the licensee will have to apply for relicensure. The following are required to renew your license in Michigan:
