Connecticut Cosmetology Licensing Requirements

Connecticut: The Constitution State

If you are interested in getting your Connecticut cosmetology license or other beauty license, below is all the information you need to know about getting licensed in the Constitution State!

Licenses Available:
Cosmetologist/Hairdresser
Barber
Electrologist

Required Hours:
Cosmetician / Hairdresser: 1500 Cosmetology School Hours
Barber: 1500 Barber School Hours
Electrologist: 600 Hours

License Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must have evidence of an 8th grade education.

Reciprocity:
Applicants with a valid license from a state whose requirements are equal to or higher than Connecticut will be credited theit total number of hours towards licensure. However, applicant may still be required to take the exam.

Renewal:
Cosmetology licenses in Connecticut are valid for two years, and they must be renewed by the last day of your birth month. To renew your CT cosmetology license, the following items are required at the Connecticut Board of Cosmetology:

- Fee
