Barber Schools

Barbering is one of the oldest and most trusted specialties in the world of cosmetology. It is the only cosmetology career that caters specifically to the hair and skin care needs of men.

In a barber program, you can look forward to spending your time on techniques and procedures that are relevant to today's male clients. You will learn the basics of cutting and styling hair, including coloring, and the necessary safety and sanitation procedures. Some schools may even include courses in managing a small business in addition to your basic courses.

During your lab and salon hours, you will spend plenty of time working with barber supplies and developing your customer communication skills. When it comes to the barbering tools you will use, most schools provide the basic tools of the trade - scissors, clippers, and razors - and include the cost in the tuition.

Generally, barbering training requirements range from 1000 to 1,500 hours. On a full-time basis, this means spending between seven months and one year in a barber trade school. When you have completed your training requirements for your state, you can apply for your license.

To find out if a particular barbering program matches your unique interest and needs, request information from the school of interest.
